Lately, I’ve been thinking about how easily stress weaves itself into our days. Busy schedules, constant noise, endless to-do lists… it can feel like a lot.

For me, essential oils became a simple, natural way to slow things down.

They aren’t a cure-all, and they don’t need to be complicated. They’re simply concentrated plant extracts — capturing the scent and subtle properties of herbs, flowers, peels, and resins. When used with care, they can gently support our mood, our health, our rest, and even our homes.

Here are five essential oils I return to often in my own self-care rituals.

1. Lavender

Lavender, my absolute favourite! It’s soft, floral, and incredibly calming. I love it in the evenings when I’m winding down.

How I use it:

A few drops in the oil burner around the home.

Pillow Mist spray, over the bed covers.

Cooling body spray.

Diluted with a carrier oil on wrists or temples.

A few drops on the car diffuser.

A few drops mixed with Epsom salts for a relaxing bath soak.

2. Peppermint

Fresh and energising, peppermint feels like a deep breath of clarity. It’s lovely when I need focus or a little afternoon lift.

A Gentle Reminder About Safety

Essential oils are powerful because they are concentrated. A little truly goes a long way.

Always dilute before applying to skin. Do a patch test first.

If you’re pregnant, nursing, or have health conditions, speak with a professional before use.

Natural doesn’t automatically mean risk-free — intention and care matter.

Final Thoughts

Essential oils have become small but meaningful parts of my self-care rituals. They remind me to pause. To breathe deeply. To create moments of calm in ordinary days.

You don’t need all ten. Start with one that speaks to you. Learn it. Experiment gently. See how it feels in your home and in your routine.

Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate — sometimes it’s just a few drops of something simple and beautiful, used with intention.
